The little stern catches a fish in the marsh of Ria Formosas of Portugal’s Algarve. The bird breeds in the sand dunes at the atlantic coast and the inland marshes are its hunting grounds. At a fish pond I saw several of them. They stand still in the air and when they see a fish they dive down. This one just ascends from the water.
Making of: I waited about 1/2 hour at the place where they were hunting in the bright morning sun. They got used to me and the light condition made it possible to use a small exposure time. Out of the many photos I tooks, this one shows best the ascent of the stern.
