Pelican ascending – Lacul Roşu, Romania, June 2015

In the danube delta, the rosa pelican is an abundant species and lives between the swimming islands. It is only seen in the more remote lakes where they can live widely undisturbed. Here we can see a pelican ascending and starting his flight in the middle of Lacul Roşu.
The photo was made from a small motorboat and the pelican was solitary in the middle of the red lake. We started the tour from Sulina in the morning and arrived at the lake around noon. The pelican was quite tame and after ascending stayed close to the boat. I used a small exposure and lowered the highlights in the raw using the lightroom software.
